Mike W: #98 Baxter (Jerome Boivin)

This title is another movie i found around the same time as "Dollhouse" and in the same way. At the time the only Bull Terrier that anyone knew was Spuds Mckenzie, lovable party dog and spokesman(dog) for Bud Light. The original cover art on box just showed this instantly recognizable breed of dog against a red background with his name written above him. I remember thinking 'oh, a cute movie about a dog named Baxter'. BOY was I wrong.

Baxter is an ASSHOLE. A mean, spiteful asshole......and i love him.

Baxter has no redeeming qualities. Baxter, like the honey badger, doesn't give a fuck.

I believe this was the second french movie (the first appearing later in this list) i had seen and it definitely left its mark. If movies were organizations "A Dog's Purpose" would be GreenPeace, and "Baxter" would be The Third Reich.

There is connection for me with "Baxter" and "Babe: Pig in the City" (which is also on this list, much later) so i'll go into that during the "Babe" post.

  1. Another one from your list that I'm not too familiar with. It's nice to be exposed to stuff that I've missed.

  2. I don't remember seeing this one in the past. I just watched it last week.

Baxter IS an asshole... and I love him too. :-)

The film is oddly heartwarming for all of its misanthropy.
